Avatar and ruleset

Your body is the character you play. The laws of physics are the rules of play. You are the one choosing.

My Big TOE uses avatar in the video-game sense: the computed character you play inside a virtual reality, which here is your physical body. It has particular abilities and limitations and has to obey the PMR ruleset — what we usually call the laws of nature.

The ruleset is what defines causality inside a reality: what is possible and what is not, and therefore how the players can interact. Tight rulesets produce physical realities; loose ones produce non-physical ones.

The glossary observes that most people identify with their avatar almost completely, and build their fears, ego and beliefs around it. Some identification is necessary or the whole thing stops working. Too much of it is the expensive mistake.

Where this gets misread

That the body therefore does not matter, or that the correct move is detachment. Immersion is by design and it is useful. The fix is not caring less about the character — it is not founding your identity on it.
